How to Check CPU Temperature?
Admit it or not, we all do that even with the custom PCs which are cheap. There are plenty of unnecessary tasks, like constant gaming, watching movies, or running heavy applications all at the same time slot. This, in turn, puts a lot of pressure on the processor to manage so many activities.
And the result is inevitable, the rise of CPU temperature or overheating.
Knowing the temperature of the CPU from time to time will at least give you an idea of whether you should continue with your multiple processes or should you abort any one of them as per requirement.
Well, there are many ways in which you can monitor your CPU temperature. But mostly we implement third-party tools to do the job. It is actually easier that way.
The article will guide you with a few CPU temperature monitoring tools with step description.
So without wasting any time, let’s start.
#1: Check CPU Temperature using Core Temp Tool
Core Temp is an offline tool which can actually measure the temperature of your CPU by estimating the number of processes your processor is handling in a certain interval of time.
The method description is given below:
Step 1. Download the Core Temp from the following link:
https://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
Step 2. Run the installer to install the program and then launch it with admin rights.
NOTE: Keep one thing in mind, while installing the software make sure to uncheck the bundled software on the third page of the installation.
Step 3. Once you open the software it looks like an interface with all the temperature readings of Core processor. You can actually see the Min and Max values as well.
Check the temperature value next to Tj Max. This is the actually the maximum temperature that your CPU can handle in Celsius. Your manufacturer has rated your CPU to run at this max. possible temperature.
In case your CPU temperature is near to this value, it clearly means it is overheating.
There is another utility you can use to monitor your CPU temperature. To know it continue reading.
#2: Use HWMonitor to Measure CPU Temperature
This is yet another CPU temperature measuring utility which can monitor temperature across motherboard, CPU, hard drives, and graphics card.
This is how you are supposed to use it:
Step 1. Download the utility from the given link:
https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Step 2. Prefer the ZIP version which requires no installation hassle. But you can download the Full Setup version as well.
Step 3. Install after downloading, and you will be greeted with a chart of temperatures, fan speeds, and other values like interface
Step 4. To see the temperature of your CPU, go down the list to find your CPU entry. It is shown by the name of your processor model. For instance, in my case, it is “Intel Core i7 4930K”
Watch the temperature values in the “Core#” list. It will give you an idea of your CPU temperature.
Conclusion:
Keep one thing in mind that you must aim to keep your CPU temperature below 75 degree Celsius. If it goes above that value, you will start to see deterioration in the performance of your computer. This is because the overheating is limiting your CPU’s capabilities as it is busy cooling itself down. This is called thermal throttling.
Though the ideal value of temperature depends upon the type of processor you own. But still, try to keep it under as much of low value as possible. Use the utilities mentioned above, it will help you keep a check on the temperature. The moment you find it rising immediately impedes certain tasks or processes from the Task Manager to bring the temperature down to the optimal value for your good.
